OOTHEK

sustainable terrarium for insects

Our pets are part of the climate problem.

An average dog has a carbon footprint comparable to that of an average-driven SUV.

A cat‘s carbon emissions are akin to those of a small car.

In fact, researchers have showed that pets play a significant role in the climate crisis.

OOthek is a terrarium that offers a climate-positive and low-maintenance approach to pet ownership.

It aims to raise awareness about the environmental and lifestyle impacts of keeping dogs and cats and shows you a better, more responsible way to enjoy the positive aspects of having a pet without these issues.

Regenerative design is at the core of the terrarium concept, with a remarkably low lifetime CO2 emission of just 32.22 kg, which is equivalent to the emissions produced by five days of a dog's presence or eleven days of a cat's.
Despite minor emissions, this innovative product plays a pivotal role in educating people about insects, addressing the global decline in insect populations, and challenging the stigma surrounding them. Ultimately, it lays the groundwork for the incorporation of insects into Western culture as a sustainable protein source, with the potential to foster a more environmentally friendly and sustainable lifestyle in the long term.
